Q. How did this radio project begin?
A. In 2006 Fr. John Silva asked Ralph Turpen and Steve Luegers to look into bringing Catholic Radio to the Evansville Diocese. Shortly after the early meetings and discussions, Fr. Gene Heerdink joined our efforts and became our spiritual advisor and board member.
Q. What is the station mission?
A. The mission of WTJW is to spread the Gospel (Good News) to all the listeners in the Dubois County and surrounding area. We are an affiliate of the EWTN Global Catholic Network and our goal is to broadcast the beauty of the teachings of the Catholic Faith and to inform, inspire and challenge listeners so that all who hear it may be brought into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God.
Carrying on the work of Jesus is what we are here for. That's why he called us. In fact the mission statement of the Catholic Faith hasn't changed in 2000 years. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20 Simple, direct, no nonsense. It is the greatest mission statement ever given.
Q. How is WTJW funded?
A. WTJW is 100% listener supported. As a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, we do not broadcast commercials nor do we have other commercial income. The station is supported through listener tax deductible donations. Without broad listener suppport, and the commitment and generosity of EWTN, Catholic radio would not be viable on local AM or FM in our area. If you are enjoying and being blessed by our broadcasts but have never given, please do so today. You can do this by clicking on our Donate button above where you will find several ways to donate.
Thank You!
Q. What are the station hours of broadcasting?
A. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Q.The programming comes mostly through EWTN, the Catholic broadcasting network based in Alabama. How does that relate to the local market?
A. The Catholic Church is worldwide and our teachings are universally the same. Whether it comes from Alabama, Austraila or Indiana, the message is the same. See Next question on local programming.
Q. Do you have local programming?
A. We broadcast special events throughout the year, and prefer to do these LIVE. We bring in guests on a regular basis to update us on their organizations activities and needs. We also broadcast PSA's (Public Service Announcements) covering local Catholic events (such as Church events, picnics, Eucharistic Adoration hours that need to be filled, fund raisers, etc ). All local programming must be approved by the Diocesan Director of Communications. Stay Tuned!
Q. How far does the station reach?
A. With the new double bay antenna installed in the Fall of 2019 we generally get good signal strength througout Dubois County and surrounding area and possibly a bit further depending on your car radio, house elevation, smart phone, etc.
Q. Is the station studio staffed everyday?
A. No not normally. We are not required to have a person at the station during the day, but would love to have some volunteer help. Please call the station (812-556-0552) and leave a message if you might like to volunteer a few hours.
Q. There has been a Christian radio station in the area for many years. How is WTJW different?
A. Catholic radio (WTJW) offers programming from a Catholic perspective that isn't currently available on other area stations.
Q. Will WTJW target only Catholic listeners?
A. Catholic radio offers a variety of programs targeted to Catholics and non-Catholics. The core programming by its nature is Catholic and will attract a Catholic audience. However, research shows that many of the programs attract a much wider general audience.
